There are many misconceptions about the Catholic Church in recent history,  such as the influence of Pope Pius XII during WWII, or the teachings of Vatican II.  The popes of the 20th Century and the Catholic Church were, and still are today, confronted with their greatest adversaries: secularism and modernism.  Come all day to this lecture series on the Catholic history of the 20th Century. Learn how our Catholic faith is being confronted in a secular society and how Vatican II, John Paul II, and Benedict XVI, provide the answers to questions about how we are to dialogue with others who live in a secular society as part of the New Evangelization.

The Importance of Vatican II Today: How the Council Impacted the Church
Fr. Jonathan Wallis   will focus on the major documents, especially the four “constitutions,” of Vatican II.   He will explain how these and the other documents have affected the life of the Church and shaped its future.  In a relatively short time, Fr. Wallis has impressed many in the diocese for his wit and humility.  No one attending these presentations will be disappointed. Fr. Jonathan is an expert in liturgical art.  Last year he completed his licentiate degree in theology at the Gregorianum University in Rome. These series of four lectures are beginning on Monday, June 24 until Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 7pm to 9pm at St. Maria Goretti (Arlington). There is a $10.00 registration fee for the classes.

Once again, the generosity of our parishioners is overwhelming.  Our pews are in dire need of refinishing and reupholstering.  Father Jim sent out a plea, and the parishioners responded.  The necessary funds have been donated.  We extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to all who responded.  The project is scheduled for summer.
